From artwork to first article: the timeline
The sequence is fixed, and knowing it keeps launch plans honest. It starts before any money changes hands: send us your idea and we produce a free 3D design of every face within 3 days, which is where fonts get fixed, logos get sized and relief gets sanity-checked against what steel can reproduce. Once the 3D is approved, cutting the mold takes 20–25 days. A custom sample follows in 3–5 days, so you hold and photograph the real product before committing the balance of the run.
Mass production then depends on the material: metal runs 20–25 days, sharp-edge resin 15–20, rounded resin 25–30, and injection acrylic 20–25. Stack it up and a fully custom project realistically spans about two to three months from approved artwork to goods ready at the factory door — before freight. Sequenced sensibly, the cash flow is gentler than it looks. The 3D design costs nothing and commits you to nothing. The sample stage risks only a few days and a courier fee. The tooling payment lands only once you have held an approved sample of a design you trust — and from that point, every reorder both earns margin and claws the mold fee back. Spread across a design's selling life, the steel is usually the smallest line on the ledger; it just happens to be the first one you meet.

What a good mold quote should itemise
